Melton 2s arrived at Moulton college with a fresh look and a sense of positivity after the disappointment of relegation from last season. It didn’t take long for the feel good factor to continue after Adam Wells opened the scoring from a deflection on the post from a short corner. Saints pushed to equalise clearly rattled that they had been pegged back. Saints equaliser came, in somewhat comical fashion, after the saints winger got into the left hand side of the D and hitting a reverse stick. The shot was poor but it had a lot of spin on the ball and after Josh Thompson made multiple attempts to clear it with foot, stick and pad and anything else he could throw at it whilst facing his own goal it snuck away from him and rolled in. To not break from tradition Cam Hutson received a green card for using his feet to deliberately stop the ball. Whilst melton where a man down saints took the lead with a well struck shot which nestled in the top corner.
2-1 going into the second half and it was end to end with the frame of both goals being rattled. But the glory belonged to Jacob Bignell who equalised on his debut after a well struck shot from Lyonel Tollemache was saved and fell Bignell’s way. The boys managed to see the game out and will most certainly be happy to have withstood the late saints pressure. We host Towcaster next week at home in a bit to get 3 points!
